Cuor di Bue

Cuor di Bue (Bull's Heart) is a favourite amongst Calgary's elderly Italian immigrant community.  A short, stocky plant with wispy foliage, Cuor di Bue will produce up to 900 g (2 lbs.) pink fruit.

Hay's Tomato

Frances Machum (AB) was every so generous to share this variety with me in 2008.  Francis received these seeds from the proprietor, Bob Ponting, of a cafe in Hays AB.  Bob said they were a family heirloom from Bulgaria.  Like many other Bulgarian tomatoes this one is SWEET.

Kosovo

Expect to support this plant because it will produce so many sweet, juicy and meaty heart shaped tomatoes and the occasionally double-heart (pictured).  This tomato was found by a UN worker in a Kosovo market.

Reinhard's Chocolate Heart

A heart shaped black tomato that was sent to me by German heirloom grower extraordinaire Reinhard Kraft. Expect the same rich flavour like all black tomatoes with the meaty texture of a typical heart tomato. 170 - 225 g (6 -8 ozs.)

The standard Days to Maturity is, at best, a guess given that weather and the gardener’s own cultural practices vary greatly. I find the following classification to be more informative:

Early less than 65 days               Midseason 65〜80 days               Late 80+ days

Russian #117

Russian #117 will produce red hearts and many double-hearts in the 500- 1 kg (1 - 2 lbs.) range.  The flesh of this variety is something to be savoured because it is so dense yet full of sweet, zippy flavour.
